Artecola tests BioLPG, the plant-based cooking gas!
Artecola is one of the first industries to use BioLPG in its operations in Brazil. BioLPG is similar to LPG (popular cooking gas), with one important difference: it is derived from a renewable source, in this case, soy. This results in up to 80% less carbon emissions.
As a company Carbon neutral and, focused on sustainability, Artecola showed great interest in learning about and quickly applying BioLPG, participating in tests of a pilot batch provided by the manufacturer, Ultragaz. The product was used at the plant of Campo Bom/RS For 15 days in the month of June, totaling 8 tons. It was the longest usage period among all the companies participating in the test.
The application was used for heating reactors in the adhesive production process, which normally operate with LPG. The performance was equivalent to that of conventional gas, representing a major advantage of BioLPG. The environmental impact is much lower thanks to the renewable raw material, with a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions.
Clean energy BioLPG is considered a new alternative within Brazil’s clean energy matrix. Its research and development were made possible thanks to an initiative by Ultragaz with University of São Paulo (USP) and the Riograndense Refinery (RPR), from Rio Grande/RS. BioLPG retains the characteristics of traditional LPG, such as its high calorific value, higher than that of natural gas and diesel. The innovation ensures up to 80% less carbon emissions compared to other fossil fuels. The pilot batch distributed to partner companies reached 140 tons.
For its participation in the initial tests with BioLPG, the plant-based cooking gas, Artecola received recognition from Ultragaz, with the presentation of a commemorative plaque for the partnership.
